It's kind of interesting how the light shows up in these types of light painting shots, but you never see the person doing the light painting. Kind of like the rules of the universe suspend when you're taking a photograph, like magic.
Its pretty easy really, you need to put the camera on a tripod and set it to do a long exposure (this one was a 15 second exposure) then using a torch, sparkler, glow stick etc draw what ever you like in the air or around someone, so on.. . My friend drew around me for this shot

In a very dark area put the camera on a tripod and set the camera to perform a long exposure, this one was 15 seconds. Then using a torch, phone, sparkler, glow stick, flare, etc just draw anything you can think off in the air.. . Once the cameras done its shot it should come out with what ever you painted with the light!
